The Titan Hockey team shrugged off a slow start eventually pulling away from the Rockford Rams for a 6-3 win today @ Ferris State University. The victory earns West the MHSAA Region 1 Title putting them in Wednesday night’s Quarterfinal back at FSU with a 7 pm puck drop.
It was good to see so many people make the trip and cheer on our team with loud “TC West” chants ringing through the stands. The boys played from behind after an early Ram goal; West equalized but as the period came to a close Rockford went up 2-1 on a long effort from the blue line that left Sitkins screened. With just 12 seconds remaining in the 1st period it looked like an intermission focused on planning strategy to come from behind but instead a Titan goal with just seconds on the clock sent the squads into the locker room knotted 2-2.
Early on in the game for sure….. but that goal seemed to turn the momentum a bit as West dominated the second period for long stretches eventually taking the lead with a Brady Douglass goal that put the Rams to the sword 3-2 heading to the third period. The last stanza saw a decisive stretch with familiar names providing big moments– Alekseykov, Wilson and VanAntwerp played crucial roles in 3 Titan goals stretching the lead to 6-2. Rockford grabbed a consolation marker but it was too little too late. I didn’t really keep accurate stats today so I apologize for not getting all the goal scorers in this post; it was an exciting day for West and I enjoyed watching the team play so well. Good luck on Wednesday night—-
