Traverse City West Titans JV Grabs Lead in Fourth Inning to Defeat Kingsley at the Kingsley Invitational
The Traverse City West Titans JV softball team defeated Kingsley 16-6 on Saturday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at seven with West batting in the bottom of the fourth when the Titans went on a scoring spree that added 7 additional runs.
Kingsley scored four runs in the first inning, but Traverse City West still managed to pull out the victory.
The Lady Titans tallied 22 hits in the action packed game. Savanna Yuncker, Taylor Metz, Makada Hisem, Reeghan Alpers, Hannah MacIver, Aliah Diehl, Tayla Wilson, and Allison Willour each had multiple hits for West. Yuncker went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the Titans in hits. West didn’t commit a single error in the field. Metz had four chances in the field, the most on the team.
Samantha Spangler got the start and was relieved by Yuncker in the second inning. Yuncker shut down the Kingsley offense to get the win, not allowing a single hit in relief.
Traverse City West Titans JV Softball Go Down in a Back and Forth Game Against Charlevoix
A walk-off left the Traverse City West Titans JV softball team on the wrong end of a 7-6 defeat to Charlevoix on Saturday in the Championship game of the Kingsley Invitational. The game was tied at six with Charlevoix batting in the bottom of the sixth when Charlevoix singled to score the winning run
The game was a back and forth affair from the very beginning. Charlevoix scored one run in the first inning and West answered with one in the top of the second. Charlevoix scored another run in the bottom of the second and West scored two in the third to take the lead. Charlevoix scored in the bottom of the third to tie it up again. Charlevoix then scored three runs in the fourth to take a 6-3 lead. The Titans came back in the sixth inning to tie it up again at 6-6. Charlevoix won the game in the bottom of the sixth with the walk off single.
Savanna Yuncker started the game for West. She lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and seven runs while striking out four.
Reeghan Alpers led the West offense with one hit and two RBI’s. The Titans were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Aliah Diehl made the most plays with six. The Titans stole 15 bases during the game as six players stole more than one. Diehl led the way with four.
